During lunchtime, Marshneil approached Sunil to seek his autograph. According to Sunil, they both fell in love with each other at first sight. Soon, Sunil started visiting Marshneil in Kanpur where she lived at the time, and a few months later, Sunil Gavaskar proposed to Marshneil for marriage. 
Marshneil and Sunil have a son together named Rohan Gavaskar, who was also an Indian cricketer but retired to become a television commentator.
